Spring 2017 saw the latest installment in BYBB‘s Spring Jazz series at a packed Mill Hill East Church, together with Abdul William’s Steel Pan Orchestra. The band played everything from Harlem-inspired roots jazz, through to big band arrangements and foot-stomping Latin number The Peanut Vendor, and even some Fatboy Slim! In the summer, we joined with the other flagship ensembles to play a night of film music at the Regent Hall in Oxford Circus, with Music from E.T. and Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries particular highlights.
Our winter concert sees us returning to the atmospheric St. John the Evangelist’s Church, Friern Barnet with One Voice Choir, with an ambitious programme featuring Gustav Holst’s classic brass band composition A Moorside Suite, music from Stravinsky’s Petrouchka, and numbers by Stevie Wonder and Björk!
We are always on the lookout for talented young musicians, so do get in touch if you play to a grade 4 standard. We are particularly on the lookout for tubas and horns, but we can take musicians on any brass instrument.
