Music Theory

We are gauging interest in "at your own pace" theory classes at our Saturday morning Music Academies. Students would work at their own pace with the support of a teacher. This would provide an opportunity to build on theoretical aspects learnt during instrumental lessons from an earlier stage as well as leading to the Grade 5 music theory exam. Before taking ABRSM Grade 6 practical exams in an instrument, students are required to pass their Grade 5 Theory Examination, and music theory is useful for anyone who decides to take GCSE or A level music as many of the topics overlap.

Students would use workbooks by Eric Taylor (see HERE) along with the accompanying text and answer books (see HERE and HERE), or the Poco Studio series by Ying Ying Ng (see HERE), depending on which works best for them. They would be supervised and assisted by a teacher as needed, allowing time to be spent with each student one-to-one.

ABRSM practice exam papers and a theory quiz for each grade are available online HERE and HERE, and there is also a theory app for Apple and Android (see HERE).
